Rates and Services
The Write Edit, LLC offers a range of rates and services to fit your editorial needs. The pay structure is simple: I offer you a guaranteed flat rate. You will always know in advance what your project will cost.
Agents and publishers will rarely, if ever, give you a second chance if your manuscript submission isn’t in perfect shape. If there are typos or other editorial issues, your manuscript will end up in the circular file—quickly! Make sure your book, website, or document is in superb condition before submitting it to anyone.
I will honestly evaluate your manuscript and offer you an appropriate quote based on how much editing it needs. I do whatever it takes to get your work in the best shape it can be. I will also pay special attention to areas you may have concerns about, such as problems with punctuation, grammar, character, flow, or coherency.
I provide thorough, honest feedback. I do not cut corners.
• I will offer you an exact cost for proofreading or editing after evaluating your manuscript. Send the final word count and the document in Word to: Valerie@TheWriteEdit.com
Editing Descriptions
Below are brief descriptions of the types of editing I use to prepare your book for its best possible version. If you’re unsure which service you need, no worries! I’ll review your work and provide a professional recommendation tailored to your project.
1) Line editing (also called substantive editing, or content editing) focuses on the work line-by-line and concentrates on word usage, tone, structure, style, logic, accuracy, flow, dialogue, organization, plot, and cohesiveness. I will note inconsistencies, plot holes, areas of confusion, and areas for improvement. This is ideal for someone whose manuscript would benefit from an edit that explores deeper issues. A line edit reaches beyond the technical focus of the copyedit. If the author has reworked the text following this edit, he/she will sometimes require a copyedit/proofread following this edit and can receive one at a discounted, negotiated rate.
2) Copyediting is a mechanical/technical service that corrects grammar, punctuation, spelling, syntax, subject-verb agreement, awkward wording, and anything confusing, ambiguous, or inconsistent. Clarity, flow, and consistency are addressed.
3) Proofreading will catch all those minor mistakes that were missed, such as typos, misspellings, spacing problems, and formatting errors. This also includes fixing minor issues that the copyeditor might have missed. This is the last step in the editorial process and is something I offer if your manuscript or document has already been copyedited. If your document has not been properly copyedited, I might perform a light copyedit/proofread.
4) Manuscript Evaluation
You will receive a full, professional, in-depth analysis of your fiction or nonfiction work, to include commentary on character, plot, story, pacing, setting, flow, structure, tone, and any other issues specific to your manuscript. I will suggest what is working and what isn’t.
A manuscript evaluation does not include in-text edits. Choose this if you are unsure whether their manuscript is ready for an editor to take a pen to the story. If you still have questions about areas of your manuscript, choose a manuscript evaluation. If you decide to do an edit following the evaluation, you will receive a 10% discount.
Rates for a manuscript evaluation:
up to 25,000 words – $550
25,001 to 50,000 words – $695
50,001 to 100,000 words – $795
100,001 to 150,000 words – $895
